Default Sand Jeep, what engine would you build?

Really thinking about turning the CJ6 into a sand jeep / street cruiser.

Maybe 33-35" tires, one of my Ford 9"s in back, either a dana 30 or dana 44 up front, basic/clean/simple, but with a serious motor. Maybe be able to run paddles in the sand. The family really likes the sand...

So, question is, for something like this, how much motor do I need, and what would you build? (like, what motor, what size?).

400hp?
500hp?
600hp?

Want the motor to be able to run nicely on the street..

If 400-450hp would be enough, I could run my aluminum block 5.3 V8, with an aftermarket cam, intake, headers. Its already got LS6 heads and 10:1 compression, those parts woudl put it arond 425hp or so...

All kidding aside... and my own preferances aside...

As much power as you can afford.

Yeah, I figure..

Its just something that I've never owned any V8s with any power before. So just don't have a reference.

Like, if I need 500hp to feel FAST on the dunes, and thats out of my budget, I would do something different with one of the other Jeeps. (I think 500hp could be in the budget just fine, just an example..)

As you know the required HP is directly related to the weight of your rig . I doubt you could make use of any thing more then 400 HP .

What does a 383 stroker put out ? One of the sundowners has a 5 with the 383 and its just plain wicked with paddles on it . Wild guess i doubt that stroker makes more then 350 honest HP

450-500 would be a total blast on the dunes and street. If you could hit that, I think that would be a good ride.

1st sentence I agree with 100%. Second sentence... no way. Expand your thoughts on that for me a little bit.

Lets say you can twist the shit out of a set of paddles at 400 hp , what use is another 100 HP ? If you compensate with higher gears the 500 hp can turn the paddles at even more rpm i suppose but say 4:10 gears with 400 hp , red line at 7 grand . same gear same red line with 500 hp what have you gained ? Your paddles are still turning the same revs .

On the street that small of rig is only going to hold the road so hard ( traction). 400 hp would roast the tires until you blew one out , whats gained at 500 HP

5 or 6 K rig ya i can see 500 plus HP with gobs of torque . Larger load to move , more PSI per tire on the ground for traction .
